1. Chunxi Road — The Busiest Commercial Pedestrian Street in Chengdu

Chunxi Road is the most popular shopping area among people in Chengdu. It’s a good place for shopping and entertainment.

Chunxi Road is the major downtown shopping district where you’ll find more than 700 modern departmental stores selling brands like Lacoste, Nike, Polo, Gucci, etc. There are supermarkets and eateries moreover, you can find numerous of “traditional Chinese specialties” there, such as Zhong dumplings, Lai rice dumplings, etc. Don’t miss them during your internship in Chengdu!

How to get there: Take metro line 2 and get off the train from Chunxi Road station

 

  1. Tai Koo Li — the best place for international interns to enjoy shopping and western food.

The buildings in Taikoo li combine modern and traditional Chinese architecture style. Unlike other shopping malls, Tai Koo Li in Chengdu is more like an open shopping area. The price is relatively higher but the shopping environment is very good. You can also find authentic western food there during your internship in China.

How to get there: Take metro line 2 and get off the train from Chunxi Road station

 

  1. Jinli Street— a must see for interns in China

JinliStreet is next to Wuhou Temple. It’s a very traditional ancient street in Chengdu. Full of buildings from the Ming and Qingdynasties, Jinli Street also gives people a peaceful and classical feeling.

There are plenty of products and shops on both sides of Jinli street, such as leather shadow puppets, chopsticks specialty stores, restaurants, bars, and pubs. It’s also the best place for international interns to try local snacks during your internship in China.

How to get there: As there is not metro station there, you can choose to take bus or taxi. It’s only around 9RMB by taxi.

 

  1. Song Xian Qiao Art and Antique market-Where international interns can shop as the locals do

Songxianqiao Art City ranked as the fourth largest artwork market in Southwest China. It’s very close to Du Fu Cottage. On the second floor of this art city, you will find many reclusive painters, who run their galleries as businesses in the market.

If you want to avoid the typical Western tourist areas and go shopping where the locals go, head to Song Xian Qiao Art and Antique market. It’s a good place for interns in China to learn Chinese culture and buy some interesting gadgets.

How to get there: You can take metro line2 or taxi by around 15RMB

 

  1. He Hua Chi- the cheapest shopping area in the city

He Hua Chiis located on the south side of the North Railway Station. It’s a wholesale market selling affordable clothes, shoes, toys, Chinese souvenirs, etc. It’s a super big market which you cannot explore the entire area in one day. However, it is divided into categorized sections so shopping there is not a big issue.

Remember the only shopping rule there is to try to bargain as much as you can before you buy anything. It will be a very interesting experience for western interns in China!
